Friends at Chorleywood Golf club saluted distinguished Club member Joan Galbraith recently ( 2nd Feb) on her 100th birthday.
Joan had been a keen golfer from the age of 70 and continued to play regularly at Chorleywood until the age of 95 (without the use of a golf buggy!). She was also a county tennis play for Lancashire, as well as an extensive world traveller, visiting China, the Far East and South America long before they became popular holiday destinations.
Joan received numerous cards and gifts and celebratory telegrams from the Queen and from the Minister of Work and Pensions (Iain Duncan-Smith) which were opened and read to Joan in front of the 50-plus party-goers.
“Joan is a shining exampke of what we always suspected – golf is good for you!” says fellow club member Rosemary Venner
