Claire Pitt is approaching the end of her first term as Head Teacher of Russell School and has been enjoying her new post immensely. Having spent eighteen years in a multicultural school in Central London where 38 languages were spoken, she is enjoying the different challenges of a more rural school.

What strikes her most about the area is the strong sense of community in the village. “I find it fascinating!”

Mrs Pitt’s aims for Russell include an open door policy and improving communication all round. Pupil Voice is important to her and already a Head Boy and Head Girl have been appointed (Yr 6 children put themselves forward and senior leadership team, teachers and classmates voted), there is a new House Point System in place and a weekly newsletter is being distributed to parents.

The focus in the school recently has been on behaviour for learning and accelerating the progress of pupils. Future plans include developing the playground.
