heronsgatelaneHeronsgate Nursery School, hidden away in the leafy lanes off Long Lane, has reopened its doors.

The nursery, which has been providing pre-school education to Chorleywood under 5s since the 50s, was destined to close due to the small number of children, but four determined parents Louise Mealing, Basia Hargreaves, Hema Makan and Beata Kowski were deterined to make it work.

“Heronsgate Nursery is brilliant“ says Louise , “it’s like a traditional playgroup but adheres to modern guidelines in terms of assessments and planning – and all the staff are mothers.”

Hema Makan was immediately drawn to Heronsgate when her shy eldest settled in quickly at a trial session.

“She left my lap and was off! We signed up straight away. Heronsgate really suits children who get lost in a bigger setting.”

Basia Hargreaves agrees,

“It’s so homely, a friendly and nurturing environment with a backbone of excellent staff. Lots of existing parents are teachers which speaks for itself.”

Beata Kowski is the Manager,

“ We have a capacity for 24 children. We follow the early years’ foundation stage curriculum and give parents regular updates on children’s development. The children learn through play and discovery – even the counting is through toys. We use a safe garden and children see birds, chickens and horses nearby, they love it which makes for happy parents!”
