Young fencing champ Issie Johnson is getting even better at her sport winning an impressive list of county, regional and national medals.

But the 11 year old Christ Church School pupil who started fencing just three years ago achieved her biggest win to date last month (17 June) when she won the England U11 Girls Foil Championship in Hatfield. Previously she took Silver in the U12 Girls Foil category at the British Youth Fencing Championships in Sheffield.

Issie trains with Fencers Club London (FCL) based at the Nuffield Sports Centre at RMS (

Started in 2015 by former National Women’s Champion and former St Clement Dames pupil Dominique Szokolovics, the club is fast becoming one of the best in the country.

Issie’s ambition is to represent her country on the international fencing circuit. She puts her success down to having world class coaches and training hard, typically five times a week.

‘Issie is surrounded by enthusiastic coaches who are passionate about developing talents like hers.” says Dad Kieran, “Her receptiveness to learning and her determination to win make her a formidable fencer.”
