Latimer Place Hotel
Set in the idyllic Buckinghamshire village of Latimer and once the home of the Barons of Chesham, Latimer House has been taken over by De Vere Venues and renamed Latimer Place
Set in 30 acres with function rooms ideal for events, meeting and training, it also has an indoor pool and sauna.
Licensed for Civil and Commitment Ceremonies, it has a dedicated Wedding co-ordinator.
The gorgeous red brick Church, on the right as you drive in, is an architectural oddity that is well worth a visit.
The History
Latimer House played a key part in WWII. It housed German prisoners of the Officer class and whilst phoney interrogations were carried out the really useful information was gathered by bugging the prisoners in their leisure times. Interrogators would take a German General for a walk in the grounds and chat about politics, literature or family, then once relaxed they would let secrets slip. It was at Latimer conversations about V1 and V2 were first overheard. Click here for more information
An IRA bomb at Latimer House exploded on 12 February 1974, there were no fatalities and few injuries.
Th House and Church were designed by Edwrd Blore the architect probably most famous for completing Nash’s re-design of Buckingham Palace.
