“Oh, and it`s only £275 for 7 nights half board, it`s usually £750” At this she had my undivided attention “All we have to do is get ourselves to Montenegro” my attention started to undivide “We could fly into Croatia then take a bus`. My heart started to do that sinking thing “Or Montenegro Airlines fly into somewhere called Tivat, then it`s only 10 minutes by taxi to the harbour.”

Booking with Montenegro Airlines was fairly straightforward until we tried to print out the tickets, then you find out they don’t issue tickets or online check-in or boarding passes or possibly even exist……`”Yes, I did double check it was the south terminal” I repeated as we stood gazing at a Departures Board that listed every holiday destination under the sun except ours.

A uniformed man with one of those `Ask me any stupid question you like` badges had never heard of Montenegro Airlines but he set off to investigate and returned a few minutes later to direct us down a narrow corridor lined with check-in desks for cities yet to be discovered by easyJet and Ryanair.

Once on board I read the inflight magazine which had lots of useful information such as `Smoking is not allowed inside cafes, bars and restaurants but do not be upset if you see people smoking as local people smoke anywhere they like`

Soon the trolley arrived with a choice of warm Coke, warm Fanta or warm water with a tea bag, all accompanied by a cold croissant, though the croissant did have jam in it. On arrival 280 passengers shuffled forward whilst passports were checked by 2 men guarded by 4 men with sub machine guns.

The rest of Montenegro turned out to delightful with friendly people, beautiful scenery and you simply must visit Kotor and Perast.

I’d go again.
