Tennis Club 50 years

Chorleywood Lawn Tennis Club was the brainwave of a group of public spirited local residents.

After a meeting at the British Legion Hall in 1966 where 100 people contributed £5, the group persuaded Chorleywood UDC to lease them the neglected kitchen garden land in Chorleywood House grounds. Plans were drawn up and a club constitution drafted. Funding came from subscriptions plus loans and local authority grants.

Courts were laid that year and although play started immediately, men and women changed in an unlit, unheated potting shed which was replaced by a prefabricated clubhouse in 1967.

Fifty years later the club has a modern clubhouse, newly refurbished courts, a thriving competitive and social spirit with 14+ teams plus an energetic junior division.

The Club is holding a 50 yr Anniversary Dinner Dance on Saturday 24 June. Tickets £25 inc fizz, canapés, 3 course dinner, live music and dancing. Tickets from heritylynda@aol.com or 07717650511
