With the school fayre season about to commence alongside charity fund raisers in back gardens and,of course, not forgetting our very own Village Day, I thought I would update you on recent changes to licensing laws and perhaps plant a few ideas that may help to raise a few pounds for worthy causes.
* Firstly worth noting that for once a bit of red tape has been cut so that life is a little easier for events taking place in schools and community halls and on holiday, your Bed & Breakfast doesn`t need a license if you want to enjoy a Bucks Fizz with your full English.
* Anyways, live music has been deregulated so no double or triple glazing and sound diffusers and door staff for events up to 500 and no license needed for discos up to 500.
* No license needed to show a recorded film provided it is relevant eg a ladies’ evening could show `Watership Down` but not that Oscar nominated film about the guy who always leaves the toilet seat down.
* No license needed for Greco/Roman wrestling shows up to 1,000 attending, I wasn’t too sure about a Greco/Roman wrestling show followed by a disco, would 500 people have to leave?
* No license needed for a Travelling Circus, I’d just love to see a gang of clowns pull up outside The Rose and Crown on a Monday night in one of those exploding cars with everybody inside singing `Dee-dee- dee-diddle – ee – dee-dee-dee`.
* Liqueur chocolates or any confectionery containing liqueurs may be sold to children of any age, Mrs Campbells` sweet stall at Russell School no longer has to keep the rum truffles under the counter.
Lots to ponder and perhaps soon we can sit in those nice chairs in Village Buzz at Sheraton House and be entertained of an evening.
