Rustling up a green story

Three Russell School pupils are enjoying being part of the editorial team responsible for producing the recently introduced school publication Russell Round Up. Tegan Murphy, Hannah Poulson and Lucy Sandoe’s latest story was about a new green school blazer for Years 5 and 6 to be phased in at the start of the autumn term. They interviewed Head Teacher Claire Pitt.

“We thought it would make the children look smarter and make the Year 5 and 6 feel more grown up, as well as helping the younger ones look up to them as role models of good behaviour,” explains Mrs Pitt

The blazers, made by schoolwear provider David Luke, are eco friendly, being made from recycled plastic bottles that would normally end up in landfill.

“ The used plastic bottles are put through a process which starts with the shredding of the bottles into flakes of plastic and ends with a filament yarn of polyester which is then woven in to a fabric and mixed with other fibres where necessary” says Kirsty Conroy of David Luke

The blazers will be available at Chorleywood Sports from late summer.
