It’s nearly time for the board games to be pulled out and dusted off for the annual family session although for some folk games are on the cards every month.

There are several thriving pockets of games players in and around Chorleywood .

John Roe in Sarratt hosts a small group who play strategy board games every the third Wednesday of every month.  “Recently we have been playing Stone Age and Settlers of Catan but our choice depends on who and how many turn up.  We operate under the aegis of Sarratt U3A!”

Viv Bartlett and Bob Whitney are two of several poker players who regularly get together in Chorleywood and Amersham

“ It’s just a vehicle for getting us together socially with no pressure” says Bob, “ We realised we were only seeing friends at Christmas and BBQs and wanted a reason to meet up more regularly.”

Fans of cards, dice, boards and counters who are members of The Watford Board Games Club meet at the D20 cafe in Watford every 4th Tuesday of the month, 11am – 5pm ( danielt@x1church.com)

while The BucksGammon Club get together to play Backgammon at The Drawing Room in Chesham on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays each Month 6:30pm for 7 pm start. All levels welcome (chelseamuffin@aol.com) www.bucksgammon.webs.com

There’s also Backgammon in Amersham on the fourth Wednesday of the month: www.facebook.com/groups/AmershamBackgammon/

There are sometimes sessions run by a member in Chorleywood www.facebook.com/groups/bucksboardgames

And at our friendly local The Old Shep, an enthusiastic gang meet regularly to play cards, cribbage, backgammon and demolish cake made by Elie Kirkman! Usual date is first Tuesday of the month. Just turn up. We went along last month and snapped them in action

If you prefer to just turn up any day and play games – there’s a stack classics waiting in the corner of the Land of Lib!
