Two fundraising events were held at Rootz in November
Monstrous Movember, A night of song and camaraderie was held at Rootz on Fri 10 Nov with music from Mick Flinn and Donna Jones and an open mic session hosted by Paul Jones. Performers included Viv Bartlett and Vartan Melkonian. £200 was raised from the night which was doubled to £400 by Rootz owners Phil Williams and Cathy Perkins and split between the two men’s health charities FOPS (Friends of Prostate Sufferers) and Movember.
The Blitz years were revisited on Remembrance weekend in Rootz ( Sat 11 Nov) by local musos The Doodlebugs, aka father and daughter duo John Jackson and Lizzy Duncan in what they dubbed A Bully Beef and carrots Production!
“ I played a collection of songs that Londoners whistled (when anti- aircraft guns were firing in Hyde Park) with Lizzy performing vocals” says John, “In the second set everybody joined in Cockney classics like Roll out the Barrel and Pack up your Troubles. Profits made went to the Royal British Legion.”
