Chorleywood’s own Rugby World Cup shirt

The idea for a Chorleywood Rugby World Cup shirt came to Roger Foord and Cliff Smith when they were having a pint at the Rose and Crown. The two decided to get a special shirt made to commemorate England’s part in the international ruby competition and give local businesses the chance to pay to have their logo on the body or sleeve, then give all profit on sales to Great Ormond St hospital.

R&C Landlord Jeff was happy to sign up as the first sponsor which was perfect on two scores – the pub and the England team sharing a rose logo, and the hostelrie making a convenient venue for related fundraising ventures.

Once local printer Stuart Spence and Jan Emmett of Chorleywood Sports came on board it didn’t take long for the concept to become a firm plan of action.

“The project is a whole village community effort in the form of a rugby shirt” says Roger, “all positions have been sold to Chorleywood businesses including the rugby union team formation on the back with company names taking the positions of the players. We are also selling spaces on the shirt back where names can be printed close together so that together they make up the figure 2015. Some of these are still available and priced deliberately low at £5 so families and young rugby fans have a chance to be involved. The shirt will be £45 and available from August but it’s best to order in advance from Chorleywood Sports – we are hoping that Former Wasps and England player Rob Lozowski will sign the first hundred sold.”

Other proposed fundraising activities include Quiz nights and a Black Tie dinner.
