Take a Shelfie!
An Easter competition at Christ Church School encouraged children to ‘Take a Shelfie’.
“We’ll do anything to encourage children to have fun with books.“ says Duncan Gauld, Head Teacher. “Reading is essential for success at school and enjoying being around books is the first step a child has to take before becoming a confident reader.”

Testing Times
Year 6 pupils across Chorleywood are gearing up for their Key Stage 2 SATs tests (11 -15 May). At Christ Church School the School’s Citizenship Award relieves test week pressure
“We encourage leavers to give something back to the community in the final term,” explains Jane Broadis, Year 6 Teacher. “Children will be painting at Chorleywood Scout camp, helping set up the Christian Aid market and weeding Christ Church graves. We get them out every afternoon after morning tests and SATs week becomes fun!”

Money makers
Children at Chorleywood Primary have been making money! Each class were given £10 to invest which involved creating a business plan, keeping Excel account spreadsheets and selling an
idea / product. All classes donated a percentage of profits to charity. Y5 made the most money and Y2 received a trophy for creativity. This entrepreneur scheme looks set to become an annual event.

Top School Governors get together
The new Chairs of Governors of our three primary schools met for the first time in March to discuss how they could benefit from working more closely to share expertise on approaches to teaching or by running combined events in music, sport, and the arts. Doug King at The Russell School and Simone Tyson at Chorleywood Primary School took up their posts in October and Gillian Pugh took on the chair at Christ Church C of E Primary School in January.
“We want to share best practice, support and nurture talent and ensure happy and successful outcomes for the children in our community” says Simone.
“Governors play an important role in ensuring that schools are well run and that children get the best possible education.” says Gillian Pugh, “ With so much change in the education system it makes sense to discuss ideas. We are planning on keeping in regular contact.”
Doug King adds
“We will be able to add collectively to the experience that children and families can enjoy and look forward to taking these discussions forward”.
