Book Club Birthday
Not many book clubs could claim to have been running for 40 years with largely their original members! But one, believed to be the earliest established book group in Chorleywood, has been meeting monthly since 1975 and celebrated their 40th anniversary in August.
Eleven books a year are read and discussed by the fifteen club members, often titles that wouldn’t have been picked off the shelf. Learning how different minds interpret a novel has led to a deeper insight into books and their authors. Plus, as an older age group, personal experience of many of the situations encountered in novels – a broken marriage, a bereavement, the birth of a baby – can enable a person to judge the authenticity of the writing and how fictional characters react.
Sadly, one member died two years ago, and another moved too far away, but the others have grown ‘just a little older’ in this group of very firm and always supportive friends.
