Bill Griffiths is gearing up for a bike ride to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West. The 66 year old, who has lived in Chorleywood for 25 years, is one of hundred cyclists taking the challenge in the west country on 8 July.
“I took up cycling in 1994 – I was made redundant and a friend gave me a bike after his wife had bought him a new one! I cycle a lot locally, usually solo on quiet country roads , canal footpaths and bridleways . I have been doing charity rides for over ten years, the first was in East Africa in 2003 raising money for Scope .
I’m a huge fan of the hospice movement (I cycled across Cuba to raise money for the Peace Hospice in Watford ) and a friend who works for Children’s Hospice South-West persuaded me to have a crack at this!
This will be the toughest ride I’ve done – 205 miles in three days , and the west country is not known for its flat roads! The costs of the event have been covered by company sponsorship and registration fees so all donated money goes directly to the charity.
