Bubble Machine

Cliff Parker’s motor caused a lot of attention when it was parked outside Budgens yesterday (6 June).  He had taken the three wheeled 1960s bubble car for a spin to his mate’s Mum in Green Street and called in to the store en route.  Shopping progress was slow as passers by stopped to quiz him about the Messerschmitt .

” I’ve had the Schmitt since I was 17. My mate and I took it to France in the 70s and we want to repeat the trip so I have been slowly restoring it.  It’s difficult to get the parts – I had to use a lawn mower battery!”.

The car says Cliff is great fun, if a bit scary especially on motorways

“It’s so exposed. A car nearly pushed  me off the road the other day as he pulled alongside me to take a photo and swerved. It’s great to drive in summer..in winter it gets drafty and my hands go numb.”
