Locally based event styling company Revival Rooms who compile a regular page for Chorleywood Magazine are getting more and more bookings. We caught up with them at the barn that doubles as their storage area and working space

You may well have seen Sian Ryan and Stephanie Gale’s aka Revival Rooms’ vintage inspired design at local events (they added the country festival stamp to our Rhythm Café on Village Day and supplied retro tea sets for the PC Commemoration event at the Memorial Hall) but it’s bespoke styling of weddings and landmark celebrations that’s their bread and butter.

When we dropped in to the barn they were getting together an Enchanted Forest display (– think greenery tunnels, trailing ivy, cascading chandeliers, lush moss, timber)…and at the same time planning a vintage bar and setting aside wooden crates, decanters, soda siphons, antique glassware and a shiny drinks’ trolley.

Requests come in weekly for party styling, table dressing and complete venue make overs and they are happy to tackle any theme a client throws at them.

“ One bride put together a Pinterest board of inspiration- there were 90 pins!”

It was their shared love of quirky style that first brought Sian and Step together as friends and when they were Central St Martins students flat-sharing in East London they spent weekends scouring street markets.

“We became obsessed with finding lovely old pieces – that’s where it all started”

Directly after leaving College they launched the business which has grown gradually,

“We used the word Revival because it sums up giving new life to tired spaces and forgotten treasures.”

The pair are always on the look out for props at vintage emporiums, collectors’ fairs and online, and recently have been focusing on furniture

“ Chairs stacked high make a great focal point great” says Sian, “ I love to use a couch if we can too – I’m just bidding for a French velvet one on ebay – It’s cheaper to buy than hire one”

So what’s the 2014 event trend?

“Gatsby is really popular. Our drinks trolley and vintage bar work for that and giant white 3ft balloons look good.”

And their favourite themes to date?

“ One of our favourites ever was a travel inspired wedding we did for a couple who had met travelling. The invitations were on postcards, we used globes and magnifying glasses, filled suitcases with flowers and decorated tables with shells. We loved the Alice in Wonderland wedding too – we hung huge clocks high from lighting bars using nylon thread so they looked like they were floating in air. We’ve done all sorts of themes – a 70s Moroccan Boho style wedding, a 1940s 90th birthday lunch, a baby shower sweet shop and a monochrome dinner party. We have a medieval wedding coming up and we are looking at creating a gentlemen’s ‘smoking’ style room in one area. We like to do things differently each time – and there is nothing better than when we are given a blank canvas! “
