It’s all go at the Memorial Hall at the moment as young performers of Carol Kristian Theatre School (CKTS) are flat out rehearsing for their 2014 show, Peter Pan.

It’s CKTS’s 30th show and the fourth time it has been performed by the school. Ex CKTS student , Director of Talkwood Productions Josh Sills is Director and School Founder Carol Kristian, Producer.

“ It’s ten years since the show was done” says Josh, “last time I was Hook!  Everybody loves doing it and it gives great opportunities to explore styles and characterisations. We have 250 performers between the ages of 3 and 18. This time round we are featuring songs from Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  There’s a bit of twist, all the pirates except Smee are girls and Hook is female too –  girls tend to be more brutal than men!  Our rehearsal process is in line with professional theatre, we have been researching and discussing rather than standing up reading scripts so everybody is really getting into character. This makes it more challenging for the cast. It should be a bit darker too!”

“There are many LAMDA Gold medal standard performers and we’ve a really pro team of long standing teachers and choreographers at the helm with recent graduates keeping us up to date.” adds Carol, ” The role of Peter Pan is shared by Amy Wonnacott who started performing with us at 6yrs old, and Josie Illingworth who is relatively new to the school.”

Several of the current students are talented enough to follow the Performing Arts School route in future but for now performing is a fun way of spending their spare time, not least when there’s a show to put on.
