* CW Golf Club was founded on 14 March 1890.
* It was started principally by the Masters of Harrow School and members of the House of Lords after the railway line from London was established in 1889. The Club still play Harrow Masters every year
* Club members wore cherry red jackets in the 1900s
* The course has been played by a prime minister (Arthur BalfourPM 1902 and 1905) a Lord of the Manor (John Gilliat, Club President, lived in house that’s now Cedars Village) plus eminent conductor ( Sir Henry Wood of Proms fame)
* In the early days, villagers feared the loss of grazing land and held a series of protests at the club being founded.
* During WW1 the Common was used as practise area for the Bomb School. After the war 150 live grenades were dug up in an area stretching from Holly Bush pond to the 7th fairway.
* The original 18 hole course included 2 holes which crossed over the railway. Caddies were forbidden to carry anything similar to a red flag to avoid confusing train drivers.
* The ground was churned up really badly and there was no money to maintain it so the course was reduced to 9 holes after the war.
* Women have been playing at the club since the 1920s
* Play on a Sunday was authorised in 1926. In the summer months no play is permitted on Sunday afternoons.
* The course was bombed in WW2. 9 high explosive and 2 incendiary bombs fell on the night of 30 September 1940.
* A python was once spotted sunning himself on the 6th tee.
