The pretty white Christmas lights are now strung across our shop fronts again so Christmas has officially arrived in Chorleywood!
LED lighting, introduced last year, has reduced running costs considerably. The total cost of powering the village from 15w bulbs (2 per metre) to LEDs (10 per metre) has dropped from £470 to £11! The festoon lighting is funded by Chorleywood Business Association while the chunky electric blue Christmas trees fixed to our lamp posts are set up by Three Rivers.
Pierre Bosdet of Chorleywood Business Association and Matt Jennings of St Giles Electrical had the task of setting them up. There are a few issues to be sorted but most are twinkling merrily.
” We had some hitches, not least the scaffolding at the front of Poores making them less conspicuous and a problem with a faulty power box ” says Pierre “but all round it’s a much easier job putting them up than it was with the incandescent bulbs when we had a lot of breakages and rusting of fittings. Lights have to be tested for safety and are insured for the Christmas period.”
