L1120744_2P1050651 copyIf you take the steps to Chorleywood station from Lower Road you can’t fail to have noticed that the small shop that

was once J D Barbers is now a wig studio.

The premises has been taken on by Bespoke Wig, owned by ex St Clement Danes student Caroline Posso.

Beginning her career in visual merchandising with C&A, Debenhams, and M&S, Caroline Posso moved on to a Mannequin supplier, primarily working on commissions for high street retail displays.

“At this time I had a couple of friends with breast cancer so I started to be more interested in the wigs.”

When the Mannequin company folded, a transition to specialising in wigs was the obvious move for Caroline.

Caroline is highly creative and loves making wigs for the likes of Liberty, Top Shop and River Island (“We have even done a wig for an Afghan hound model for a window! ”) but her heart is in creating bespoke wigs for necessity wearers – cancer patients and alopecia sufferers. She has a team who can recreate a hairstyle exactly.

“ You want to look yourself when you are having chemo and our stylists will copy a person’s hair from a photograph. We are an NHS approved supplier. We have a private room at the back of the shop where we do consultations and fittings.”

The wigs are lightweight and breathable, being completely open in structure with a net of soft lace, and have straps to adjust to head size. The most popular style is a graduated bob. Bespoke Wig use mostly Premium synthetic hair (wigs cost from £85 inc consultation) although human hair wigs can be supplied at a higher price.

The job, says Caroline, is incredibly satisfying,

“There is nothing more rewarding than helping a patient feel good about themselves and confident.”
