Amersham and Chiltern Rugby Club is only 15 minutes drive from Chorleywood and has a reputation for being warmly welcoming to new players.
The clubs team range from the Minis, Junior and Senior teams – starting as young as Under 5/6 through to its own Academy coached by Matt Allen.
“Our goal is to identify talented players in our Junior section that have the potential to play national league rugby and create an environment for them to reach their full potential” says Matt. “For this club to sustain itself at our present level it is vital that we develop more home grown players and this programme will create a pathway to the first team for these players.”
The Under 16s currently includes eight Chorleywood lads – Asa Freeman, Kier Garner, Mattie Stainsby, Oscar Greengrow, Alex Hall, Luke Upton ,Will Porter and Max Bendall. Most of them have been playing there since Year 7 but some even earlier than that.
“It’s turned out to be a lot of fun with great coaches” says Max Bendall, “They really get you to enjoy rugby with all the discipline that is needed to keep you and the other players safe.”Dads Barry Porter, John Upton and Rick Freeman are all part of the Unders 16’s 2 squad coaching team so there is plenty of lift sharing and post match socialising, true to rugby spirit.
