Derek Frankland passed away gently on 9th February, aged 89. The much loved and respected local was Head Teacher of St. Peter’s Primary school in Mill End, served on education committees and associations and after his retirement spent 30 years as a governor at Chorleywood Primary School. He also was a member and Chairman of Three Rivers District Council. Derek lived in Chorleywood for 60 years with wife Helen. Derek and Helen’s three grandchildren Lottie, Tobias and Katie played violin, cello and clarinet at Derek’s life celebration in Chiltern Crematorium on 20 February and eight year old Tobias read an excerpt from ‘The Little Prince’, a book he had been reading to Derek the week before his death.
Photo. Derek often chatted to former pupils whilst out and about, their children often musing whether this was, in fact, the real Father Christmas.
