Chorleywood resident Robin Oborn was presented with a wheelchair accessible vehicle from the community last month at a small gathering of sponsors, friends and family.
The van was paid for through a crowdfunding campaign led by Chorleywood estate agent Sewell and Gardner. Other main backers were Chorleywood Care, Friend of Chorleywood House Estate, St Andrew’s Church, The Shamblers and Church in the Swillett.
The Oborn family have had an extremely difficult journey with ill health. Robin had a serious accident in October last year which left him paralysed from the shoulders down and unable to care for his wife Jean who was suffering for Motor Neurone disease. A few months after Robin’s accident Jean passed away.
‘After Robin’s accident we helped him to move last year and were saddened to see him ‘trapped’ in Chorleywood without any form of transport.” says Kate Woodward of Sewell and Gardner “We stumbled across Crowdfunding on Facebook and decided to try and raise money for a disability vehicle to help him regain some independence. The support and donations from the local community and strangers has been incredible. Robin can now visit his family, visit favourite places and do things the rest of us take for granted
