Tom Clarkson, 24, hails from Little Chalfont, went to Russell School and St Clement Danes then studied Film and Television at Brunel University. Tom started filming around Chorleywood at 7 years old which sparked off a passion for creative production – from filming, editing and writing to directing, designing, animating, drawing and performing.
Tom’s early beginnings in promos and online content have led him to be an intensely creative filmmaker building a distinguished portfolio.
His style is vibrant, playful and imaginative, bringing to life a variety of brands across broadcast and online including Pepsi, Nokia and River Island.
Tom’s work is a constant reflection of his enthusiasm, passion and originality.
“Behind a camera, behind a computer, behind on my rent, I’m not fussy as long as I continue making creative stuff…and sometimes Ikea flat packs.”
Tom’s latest online project was part of the ‘Be More Dog’ O2 campaign.
“The whole campaign is based on the idea that we are so saturated with technology that we take it for granted and don’t go out and explore different options. In these ads people are encouraged to get in touch with their inner dog to change their approach to life. We came up with the idea of using technology to become more adventurous, playful and curious and decided to use projectors to tell the story.
The most interesting thing was that the technology ended up leading the story because we realised that we could only use the projectors at night and this was when the concept of Mr Moonlight evolved. He could only exist in the dark and had to stay away from light which made him really cautious. Mr Moonlight starts off as a cat and ends up as a dog.. what seemed like a restriction at first turned out to be a positive, we ended up with something much simpler but it worked.”
