‘Good clothes open doors’ they s
ay, and there’s no more convenient place to find good current fashion than at Number One Boutique.
Chorleywood’s only dedicated boutique has seldom been without a customer browsing or buying since it opened in Main Parade.
“ I am always going back and fore to suppliers restocking.” says owner Tracie Ness.
And each time Tracie makes a buying trip she brings back new treasures.
“ I know my customer base and what suits everyone.”
The success of the shop is as much to do with Tracie herself as the collections, carefully selected to suit the lifestyles of women of all ages. Her friendly approach makes customers feel comfortable to pop in and check out what’s new, with no obigation to buy.
“ I am happy to offer a personal styling service and even open the shop half an hour early so a customer can have the shop to herself and try on at liberty. . Sometimes it takes confidence to change a look. If I think something will suit I might encourage her to try it on, although I don’t put pressure on .”
Tracie had been Gok Wan to many friends long before she took on the business.
“ My girl friends would ask me to go shopping with them or help prune their wardrobes so when I was thinking about a change of job, fashion was an obvious consideration. I was working as an estate agent, which is up there in the hate realms together with the taxman and traffic wardens. Running a boutique is far less stressful – that’s why they it’s called retail therapy. The only problem so far is my name, Tracie doesn’t work in the fashion world… I should change it to Tallulah!”
There’s no telling what you will find at Number One Boutique, although chances are when you wear it, you will turn heads and even open some doors.
