Missing My Buddy

Lorna Marsh’s Canine Partner Eli passed away suddenly just after Christmas. His last fundraising drive was meeting children at Poores’ Santa’s Grotto at Chorleywood Christmas Festival. Donations to Canine Partners charity on the night totalled £250 which was matched by Poores CEO Shanker Patel.

Eli carried out over 300 different tasks to help Lorna every day and night, including moving her leg in the early hours to relieve pain in bed, guiding her through doorways and steering her around potholes.

Lorna reflects on her best buddy

” I miss Eli

His character was SO massive, he was one of the crowd. Wherever he was I was, wherever I was he was. He made sure he was one thousand percent included. Now everywhere I go I can see him but I can’t reach him. Every corner has a memory round it. You see, that’s the thing with a Canine Partner, they’re always there.

Now mine’s not.

Time is healing but also bruising me as the list of things I canNOT do is getting bigger by the day. There were 307 reasons why I loved/needed Eli and that wasn’t counting his massive, mischievous, cheeky, funny character.

I had a Canine Partner for a reason and that reason hasn’t gone away but my Partner In Crime has. I didn’t have a dog I had a solution/recipe that worked, now I have lost that magic ingredient. I’ve dropped the key and I can no longer pick it up.

I’ve also lost a fantastic buddy

As my youngest niece said “just Eli’. My Eli!

Just a dog? Don’t think so!”
