St John Fisher Catholic Church in Shire Lane has been revamped. Permission was at last obtained to remove most of the walls forming an archway between the two parts of the original church, the larger room once used for rehearsals by Sir Henry Wood, and an extension at the back. The result is a larger space, where the re-positioned altar is visible by everyone. Great care was taken to preserve the art nouveau features of the architect Charles Voysey, who worked on the house. In addition, a separate entrance was built on to the side of the building so that the flat above the church is self-contained.
