If you have lived in the area for a while, chances are you will know and love the monkey who has been swinging in the window of  Gordon Scott’s shoe shop for decades. Alfie the original Ape joined the company in 1960 and was eventually  succeeded by Charlie the Chimp who this week has stepped down from his branch after years of entertaining Watford shoppers and their children.

The announcement of Charlie’s retirement has caused an outrage and fans have been expressing their sadness by tweeting and posting messages on Facebook, including several concerned Chorleywooders on our We are Chorleywood page.  The good news is that a young chimp has already replaced Charlie. There is no bad news. Today (14 August) Charlie is quietly waiting to be picked up by the folk of Watford Museum who are going to care for him in his latter years.

Get down to Gordon Scott over the weekend ( Sat 16.Sun 17 Aug) and take part in a competition to of name the new young primate.  Choose from 15   – Molly, Milo, Mo, Mandy, Max, Gordon, Scott, Geri, Hayden, Geoff, Winston, Bruno, Grace, Mellie and Champ.  All forms voting the most popular choice will be entered into a prize draw for a family trip for four to Paradise Wildlife Park including a Feed the Lemur experience. There is also a runner up prize of a family trip to the park.
