Richard Foster was given a warm send off on his cycling trip to the south of France this week. Three Sons Greengrocers in Lower Road hosted a morning reception just before Richard’s departure at 10am on Monday 18 May where proprietor Sathees presented Richard’s wife Kathy with necessary vitamins for the mission in the form a of a basket of fruit.
Richard is cycling 800 miles to the South of France in celebration of his 60th birthday and Kathy will be following in the family car, carrying tent and provisions and stopping off en route daily to paint the French landscape
“I will be covering between 40 and 50 miles a day so I should get there for my birthday on 10 June. The idea came to me after a coupke of glasses of wine when we were staying in our shared holiday home in Portiragnes.” says Richard, “ I decided to make it a fund raiser for Dr Hadwen Trust, a non-animal medical research charity.”
By next weekend (23 May) Richard should have reached the Loire Valley .
“I’m looking forward to the warm weather, the cheese and the wine! The first night we are staying at a campsite a mile away from Camembert then we get to the Loire Valley which is Burgundy country.”
As cycling just at a leisurely pace can burn 300 calories an hour, Richard can afford to lunch in true French style!
Richard’s cycling challenge is supported by Brittany Ferries
