There’s a new bench in Chorleywood House grounds, in the parkland below the house. It is dedicated to the dogs walked there over the last 40 years by Eleanor Clarke. “ I thought it would be nice to have it now so I can use it – rather than after I’m dead! ” says Eleanor who was a GP in Chorleywood Health Centre for many years.

The bench was ceremonially opened with cake and Prosecco by the latest of the Clarke family dogs, Hungarian Vizsla Betsy, together with the Friends of Chorleywood House during a break in their working party session. The working parties welcome new members, and cake is guaranteed, though not necessarily Prosecco!

Friends of Chorleywood House Estate carry out general maintenance, restoration of garden features, cutting back nettles and planting. Subs £5? a year towards provision of tools and materials. Working parties meet on 1st and 3rd Tues mornings of month, to weed, prune, clear undergrowth or learn coppicing and hedge-laying skills. More details from 01923 284320 timvenner@aol.com
