Christ Church School has submitted an inspired video to the World Book Day competition following the brief ‘Give a creative response to Why We Can’t Live Without Books’
The entry, a slide show using an original song, was a joint collaboration.
Year 6 teacher Jane Broadis wrote lyrics using ideas generated by a class discussion, Jane’s brother-in-law, composed the music and school Dads Jon Hooper (piano) and Jeremy Broadis (audio) helped record the song on a Sunday afternoon.
“29 enthusiastic children from our singing group learned the song that afternoon. Back at school we worked out scenarios that would fit the lyrics and took photographs. It was great fun!”

Lyrics:
Verse 1
A world without books is an empty page
A world without books is an empty stage
No words, no actions, no colour, no light
Books bring meaning – bring lives to life
Chorus
Books can show me how to care
Books can show me that I must dare
To dream of who I want to be
Open my eyes so I can see
They open the door to travel this world
Teach me to feel the way you feel
They help me to make my escape –
Lead me to a better place
Verse 2
A world without reading – a silent room
A world without reading – an empty tomb
No Life, no meaning, no hearts on fire
Reading brings meaning – young minds to inspire
Chorus
