Cedars Retirement Village resident Wally James was on duty on May Bank Holiday Monday overseeing a colourful May Day event in the house grounds.

Activities included Maypole dancing supervised by Doris Mahood, and Morris Dancing from four 80 year old men under the skilful guidance of Shirley Billing. “Shirley whipped us into shape!”. May Queen Audrey Stern, who celebrates her 100th birthday in August, arrived in style on a flower laden electric scooter. Audrey, who was once Deputy Governor of Holloway Prison where she got to know Myra Hindley, loved every minute of the day

“I did feel important!”

“We had working parties decorating boaters with fake flowers.” adds Wally, “I made the Maypole from a pole, hazel sticks and ribbons. It was great fun, everybody has been talking about it ever since.”
