The Memorial Hall was a riot of coIour when the Horticultural Society held their spring show on 1 April. “It was one of the best spring shows for years” says Chair Sandra Kemp “we selected a date which Mother Nature agreed with for once! The daffodils were superb.”
The Society has a rich history dating from 1918 when the proceeds went to the Grand Fleet Fund for sailors’ comforts. There were years of grand open-air shows with marquees, seed-stalls and brass bands. Indoor shows in the Memorial Hall began in 1935, continued to 1940 then were revived in 1948 and have been run ever since.
There are three a year, the next is on Sat 1 July.
