Chorleywood based fencer Dominique Szokolovics is up in Largs, Scotland with her foil and her Physio. Dom is representing England in the Commonwealth Games as Foil Captain (Fencing has three disciplines: Foil, Epee & Sabre, each with different rules and target areas) and with her is Nicky Edwards of Chiltern Physiotherapy who are acting as her sponsors.
Dominique became the No 1 ranked UK woman fencer before retiring through injury.
“She came to us having totally wrecked her knee by rupturing a ligament.” says Nicky, ” After surgery, treatment and an accelerated rehab programme set by us she is back in competitive fencing at an international level. After working with Dominique I was asked to work with the whole squad. It is really exciting here. People from all over the world are here in tiny little Largs. The set up is great and everyone is really looking forward to the live YouTube feeds of the finals. The men’s Épée competition is underway. There is some nervous excitement among the other fencers watching before their competition in the coming days. So far, only a few minor niggles within the team. I had to use kinesiotape for a fencer with an ankle injury. The women’s foil (which is Dom’s weapon) is in from 8am tomorrow. Weapons are currently in the armoury being checked!”
Update
11th Nov: Dominique has won 4 out of 4 poule fights at the Fencing Commonwealth Games.
