Chorleywood Orchestra met for the first time last month under the baton of Richard Wainwright, a professional horn player and former student of the Royal Academy of Music. Founded by Chorleywood resident, Andrew McFarlane, the orchestra already has thirty enthusiastic members, some of whom confess to playing for the first time in 30 years!  The first rehearsal of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite went really well. “We had a brilliant first rehearsal and I am sure the orchestra will only grow bigger and better,” commented conductor Richard.  Many of the players were thrilled to have an opportunity to play as adults and others found it moving to be making music once again as part of a bigger group. Andrew shared his vision: “The orchestra is for Chorleywood musicians who want to play together, have fun and really enjoy being part of a local musical community.”

The orchestra welcomes musicians of around Grade 6 standard and upwards, particularly strings and horn player and rehearses at Christ Church School on Tuesday evenings.  Contact andrew@chorleywoodmusic.com
