“We’re not all jam and Jerusalem!” says Penny Pugh, Chairman of Chorleywood WI. The Women’s Institute has had a new lease of life since the popularity of Calendar Girls and the Chorleywood branch are especially keen to encourage an influx of younger recruits.
“ We meet in the evenings and have frequent coffees and lunches out” says Penny, “but if new members prefer to socialise in the nights and drink wine, that’s fine! We welcome new blood, new ideas and new habits!

“We are an active group, we take part in craft festivals and go on trips” says Penny, “We often go to Aylesbury Waterside Theatre to see a West End show , it’s cheaper and so easy to get to on the train.

“ All organisations work better if there’s a mixture of older and younger members” adds Chrissie Jenkins“it’s the life blood of groups and how they grow.”

The first president of Chorleywood WI was Lady Ela Russell of Chorleywood House.
