Pro knitter and author Fiona Goble excels at creating small figures out of yarn from zombies to royals – most recently Prince George, Gareth Southgate and Frida Kahlo. Fiona has compiled two books this year…Knit your Own Dolls (publ June) has 35 patterns of dolls and their clothes plus pets, teddy bear and beach gear. Characters include Ben the Surfer Dude, Marion the Mermaid and Superhero Stan. Knitted Animal socks and Hats, (publ 11 Sept) includes 35 patterns for babies, children, teens and adults from teddy bear booties and a pug hat to reindeer socks and a llama hat

Fiona, who lives in Chorleywood, has been knitting since the age of seven

“My mother’s twin sister taught me to knit and my first knitting project was a yellow garter stitch dishcloth – I dropped so many stitches and took so long it was holey and grubby by the time I finished it. There are much more inspiring things to knit today!”

Fiona studied politics and anthropology at university and started writing knitting books in 2004 after being made redundant.

She says she knits ‘anything and everything, often more than once!’

Fiona will be giving demos and tips about knitting at the upcoming  Wild About Wool weekend at Chiltern Open Air Museum this month, The event, is open to all ages- no previous knitting experience needed.
