Chorleywood U3A are celebrating their 5th birthday on 22 July between 2pm and 5pm at St Clement Dames Barbirolli Hall. There will be stalls and stands dedicated to various interest groups as well as performances by others including hand bells, singing, recorder, and tai chi. The day is open to the public but if you can’t make that afternoon there is a renewal and joining day on 26 August at The Junction.
The branch was started by Jill Menghetti, Georgie Barton and Juliet Hale five years ago, CW U3A continues to inspire and grow.
“When we did our launch meeting in 2010 we expected around 50 and 200 turned up. The Memorial Hall was crammed. Now we have around 400 members.”
“U3A is stage-ist not ageist’ says Jill, “although most people are in their 60s, 70s and some are over 80. Members can share skills or something they enjoy or even get together to try something new When you join U3A it’s refreshing because you’re not joining as somebody’s wife, husband, daughter, you are joining as yourself . There are so many different groups and the best way of finding out about them is coming to talk to us .. People can find us at Village Day or come to the party on 22 July or the Joining Day on 26 August.”
