For the last few years Rickmansworth Hockey Club have been trying to win the backing of Sport England to help fund an astroturf pitch at their   Rickmansworth clubhouse and have succeeded in getting to Stage 2 of funding,

They say an all-weather surface will benefit the whole community.

“Sport England have a budget of £9.6 million . They have taken 28 projects to the Stage 2 process and we are one of them.” says Chairman Tim Martin, “But we have another £100,000 to raise and are applying to the hockey foundation for £75,000 and are aiming for Rickmansworth School to participate and contribute too.  We will also need to raise money within the club. Wwe have a massive amount of work before we go to the build stage. Squares of the pitch are being sold for  £100, £200 or £500.”

IMG_20150117_102712 copyRickmansworth Hockey Club is one of the nearest clubs to Chorleywood and has a lot of Chorleywood members of all ages.

“We welcome anyone with an interest in playing regardless of age or previous experience! It’s a friendly club – in summer we have a mixed hockey festival with a two day tournament finishing off with a fancy dress party.”

Men’s and ladies teams play on Saturdays in competitive leagues from Sept – March, Training: Wed 8pm-9pm







Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 20.03.46Chorleywooders Henry Stuttaford and Dad Rob play hockey at Old Merchant Taylors’ Club. Henry has been playing since the start of secondary school and re-joined the OMT 1st team after finishing uni at Manchester where he also played up front.

“ I play most weekends throughout the season which runs from September to April and we also run a summer league on the clubs two international standard water based astros. It’s great to get together and play hockey with friends I knew from school as well as ones I have made since, we usually end up in the Clubhouse after the match watching sport on TV. The club isn’t limited to old boys, we have a few Chorleywood members and are always keen for new players to get involved. The club currently has 4 men’s sides and 2 ladies sides competing at a variety of levels. My Dad plays for the 4th OMT team. I sometimes umpire and occasionally have to ref a match with Dad’s team playing, I haven’t sent him off yet!”

“We reached the national vase final at the Olympic Stadium last April and are in the final again this year – I was the team physio for the event too. We have a large junior section with the Under 6s squad and our daughter Daisy 5, loves playing. She can be quite fierce once she has her hockey stick in her hand!”
