James Press of Chaplins highights trends from Cologne Furniture Fair

“The emphasis is very much on comfort and cosiness with feminine shaped sofas piled with pillows. Soft velvets and warm burnt oranges, deep reds, plums and teals were in vogue, some paired with dark woods and metals. The modular Solatium sofa by Antonio Citterio at Maxalto stood out as a classic with a contemporary twist.”

Chic ‘smart furniture ’ for home entertainment – decorative lowline units made of woods and metals, conceal slimmer built-in audio visual systems from view, while the streamlined Cube cabinet system by interlubke, designed for general storage, features shimmering accents of copper and brass on handles and frames.

Mario Bellini’s ergonomic Cab chair for Cassina has been given a new lease of life with 16 inspired coloured saddle leathers and we are seeing more texture and drama in tables from the curvaceous Ely Dining Table by Galotti and Radice with its tactile satin glass top to the sculptural Tama occasional natural stone table by Walter Knoll.

“As ever visiting Interior trade fairs like Cologne helps us keep track of new directions from our current suppliers as well as sourcing inspired products and discovering new design houses. Our spring/summer ranges at Chaplins display many of the trends we have highlighted here and we are especially looking forward to bringing you a brand new B&B Italia shop-in-shop this season.”
