The new Sandy Lodge hosts its third Jazz Club this month. The sessions, organised by masterful guitarist Peter Lennon, offer a variety of jazz styles on the last Thursday of the month.
“The first Jazz Night in February was a complete success” says Pete, “People enjoy the informality of the evening and there is some spontaneity which goes down really well. The music starts at around 7.45pm and the first set is generally instrumental. Every month there is a different line up. We aim to have a guest vocalist every month announced nearer the date and they perform from 9pm. A jam session follows the second break at 10pm and rounds off the evening. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in. Guests can now order supper of light bites like a cheeseboard or baguettes which is really great for those who come straight from work.“
The April Jazz night is hosted by Chorleywood based musician John Bowles and features the trio Trilogy with John on drums, Bob Haddrell on keys and vocals and Nick Newall on tenor sax and flute.
“We will be playing jazz standards in the first set.” says John “ There is nothing like live music, there is only one thing better than listening to it- and that’s playing it. Nothing beats that moment when you are playing in a band and suddenly it really clicks … the musicians are on form and the audience are loving it. It hits all the musicians at exactly the same time and everybody looks at each other with a knowing smile! I’m really looking forward to our session on the 27th April.”
