The team behind the new café at Rowan Garden Centre like to keep a low profile. The new eaterie says Helena Thompson, who runs it together with chef Linda Gelernter, needs to earn its customers through words of mouth… via recommendations from those who rate it to those who might enjoy it. So we have been banned from enthusing about the people behind the Muddy Boots Café, but we can rave about the menu and the environment, both of which are top and make it well worth a visit, especially as it’s just a 10 minute drive from Chorleywood centre.
But here’s a clue… the two are devoted foodies and it shows. Helena thrives on hospitality and her last job was heading up a very successful garden centre café at Cheshunt while Linda has been in catering for 22 years and ran The Breadhouse Kitchen at Chalfont St Peter. Just saying.
Flavours and presentation are priority. Go for a bumper ‘Fill you Boots’ all day breakfast or the impressive‘ Check out that Butty’, Try Perfect Porridge, a Healthy Bowl of granola and berries, Open grilled sarnie or posh Tasty Toast. Then there’s the seriously good Triple Fluffy Pancake stack.
Oh, and dogs are as welcome as the muddy boots and are offered their own meaty menu special – Scooby snacks ‘ a real dogs dinner with meat scraps and biscuit treats’
Enough said. Go, and if you agree, tell your friends.
