At Denham and similar clubs safety precautions are set in place including Sign in rule before entering the Lake and again on leaving. Open water swimming generally refer to competitive swimming; outdoor swimming refers to rivers, lakes and the sea.
If you are contemplating outdoor swimming outside a club environment it’s essential to know the risks,
“I wild swim because I like the countryside “says Rob Fryer from the Wild Swimming Association, “”The greatest danger is getting too cold. You should always wear footwear, go with somebody who’s done it before at a place where a lot of people swim.”

John Donald of Croxley Green is addicted to open water swimming  and swims locally at Denham Lake, Dorney Lake nr Windsor and Bray Lake, Maidenhead.  He writes a blog about his passion, aptly named ‘What I  love about water’
“ When you get into marathon swimming you are entering a world of pain. And lots of it. Interspersed with odd happy moments. When you and the water share an identity… However far or long I swim what happens inside is more significant than the distance covered or the time taken.”
