Watford-based voluntary organisation Home-Start are looking for volunteers ( male and female parents ) who can spare 2/3 hrs per week to visit Watford and Three Rivers families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical help
A few Chorleywood residents are already involved,
“Home-Start supports families with children under five.” explains senior team member Jane Greaney, “ they can be a one-parent family, have twins or triplets or could be isolated with no family living nearby. Our volunteers go in to the homes once a week as support and friendship. Sometimes it’s just a matter of rebuilding confidence or getting the Mum to a nearby Children’s Centre to meet other mums, other times it’s practical help in dealing with a few young children. It’s a great feeling being able to help. The Rose and Crown are always a great support.”
“ I started as a volunteer and now I’m a trustee and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for Home-Start.” adds Jackie Knott, “It’s an amazing charity where families help families. A lot of volunteers are from Chorleywood – we are a giving bunch here. So many people perceive this area as a place where everybody has everything but the majority of people are givers in different ways. You get as much as you give with Home-Start.”
Volunteers attend a preparation course , one day a week for 8 weeks in the Watford offices.
The course is accredited . Call 01923 248010 for details www.home-startwatford.org.uk
