Simone Tyson, Founder of Chorleywood Mums, looks at two parenting books from three authors visiting Chorleywood this month
Scummy Mummies, Ellie Gibson and Helen Thorn
Scummy Mummies made me laugh out loud from the very first page!
The book takes you through stages of becoming a parent from being pregnant to kids starting school.
Wine is a recurring theme (no surprise there!) and there is specialist parenting advice from providing a balanced meal to leaving children at nursery for the first time.
Great for first time mums-to-be or seasoned pros – everyone has a scummy mummy day at some point! Regale girl friends with the motherhood anecdotes at the pub and you will be in tears of laughter
Dummy, Matt Coyne
Written from a new dad’s perspective, Dummy says it how it really is in a funny and foul mouthed way and dispels the myths that the job is straightforward. Possibly the best birth control reading for those contemplating taking the plunge into parenthood!
I loved the apt pictures, flow diagrams and almost business style models especially the ideal birth plan, first time parent learning curve and ‘getting baby dressed’ war.
Coyne shows that most of the time we are all just winging it, just some of us more than others!
A hilarious and refreshing approach.
The Scummy Mummies and Matt Coyne AKA Man vs Baby! Wed 17 May, 7.30pm, The Junction, Christ Church, WD3 5SG
Tickets from CW Bookshop, £8 inc glass of wine, books £15 on night for both
