Following a post from a reader about dog poo in Chorleywood there has been an ongoing thread on the subject on our Facebook page

It is always very good to pick up and bag your dog poo, especially on the pavements and local areas of Chorleywood.” writes Fiona Richards, ” I would heartily like to thank the person that in all community spirit, picked up a large pile of dog poo from Quickley Lane. We had much fun today retrieving said bag of poo from our 8 foot hedge, where you (phantom dog poo flinger of Chorleywood “PDPFC”) landed your poo while trying to highland fling it into our garden, where it would have incidentally hit our 3 year old’s swing. “

“Not sure if it is an issue elsewhere” she adds, “Perhaps if anyone else is seeing a similar problem in other parts of Chorleywood they could comment here and we could combine the points? Apart from the offender/s being stopped, it could be helpful to have another bin on the corner of Quickley Road/ Lower Road (and other places?), and for the council services to assist with people such as ourselves in removing local debris from road facing hedges where offences have been committed. Having done some Googling on the matter, the fines go up to £1,000 if an offender goes to court, and many councils have run campaigns to “remind” people – I particularly liked this one from a West Midlands council who are using the slogan “No S**t Sherlock!” in an anti-dog fouling poster campaign showing a long-eared hound wearing a Sherlock Holmes-style deerstalker hat threatening offending dog owners with a £75 fine..: http://www.itv.com/…/no-sh-sherlock-council-under-fire…/    I confess Chorleywood may not like the **** but the message would certainly get through!

Local dog owner Erica Bendall adds:
“In the village there is only one poo bin that I know by the vets – and that took me several phone calls between 3RDC and CW Parish Council who would take responsibility for it after it got knocked down by a van whose handbrake failed and knocked the old one over! Can’t say I have seen one in Lower Road but there are plenty of walkers taking their dogs to the common that must have accidents on the pavements and there is no excuse apart from anti social behaviour to leave it in a garden hedge than find a poo bin or take it home. If Lower road and Quickley Lane need a poo bin then CWRA should get on board and campaign for one – but who wants a poo bin outside their house !
On the subject of litter,  I don’t think it exists on a large scale in Chorleywood but the actual bins aren ‘t that many or some of them a bit small . I always notice the small one that is always full by the newsagent. “
