Students, staff, governors and parents gathered at St Clement Danes School on Fri 19 Sep for the annual Speech Day where over 150 prizes were awarded to students for academic excellence plus sporting, arts and technology achievements.
All but one of the students was aware of the trophies to be presented by the guest speakers. The exception was the recipient of the Poppleton Prize, which is always kept under wraps until the day. The coveted prize, donated to the school by Mr and Mrs Poppleton, (John Poppleton was Chairman of the School Governors from 1996 to 2002) is awarded to the student considered to have made an outstanding contribution to the school community over their time at St Clement Danes.
We are especially thrilled that this year’s Poppleton Prize winner is Rosie Dowsing. Rosie has been our main young reporter at Chorleywood Magazine over the last two years covering a variety of features from World Challenge to Mind Maps, as well as school news and events, both in print and via our social media.
Headteacher Dr Josephine Valentine described Rosie as a “Tour de Force, a leader in the true sense” and commended her for her imaginative and effective work heading up the Charity Prefect team.
If she looks familiar it may be that she has served you a pizza – in her spare time over the last few years she has been working at The Peppermill.
Rosie is off to Durham University to study for a Combined Honours in Arts. We wish her the best of luck.
