Kathy Miller helped judge a public speaking competition for Year 4 (age 8 and 9) pupils at Christ Church recently (Wed 25 June)
“The children had been learning about different types of public-speaking and speeches. They looked at wedding speeches, motivational speeches and persuasive speeches and were then asked to choose a topic, research it and write it. Then they took their speeches home to practise performing in front of adults and when back in school, they delivered their speeches to a panel of 3 judges.”“They all did fabulously well and I am so proud of them.” says class teacher Miss Camilla Denning
‘The standard was tremendously high, much better than I could have done at their age” adds Kathy, ” Without exception, the speeches were imaginative, funny, well researched, full of interesting facts and figures and delivered so confidently. I’ve kept a list of the children’s names because I am absolutely convinced that several of them will go on to become leading actors, politicians or comedians and when I’m an old lady, I’d like to say that I played a small part in sending them on their way.’
