Table tennis is blossoming at the new Reach Free School in Mill End and in the local community

The Reach Table Tennis Academy have been winning competitions both locally and regionally.

It all started with Head, Richard Booth, organising a school table tennis club and as popularity grew, local table tennis coach, Roger Close, was invited into the school to run some P.E. lessons and table tennis.

After The Reach School became last year’s Herts Schools Boys U13 Champions they joined junior coaching sessions run by Roger at The Russell School on Tuesdays. The Club, supported by professional coach, Zoltan Hosszu, was rebranded Reach Table Tennis Academy.

“The Reach Free School pupils set the standard but the club is open to everyone “ says Roger

In this, its first season of competition, the teams have had incredible success by beating some of the most established table tennis clubs in the country

“What the boys achieved was truly outstanding. The cost of sports facilities in our area means that they only have access to sixty-five minutes’ proper coaching a week and they were competing against clubs whose juniors have affordable access to five or six hours coaching per week some in purpose-built facilities.”

Parent Helen Brown adds “My two sons, Charlie and Eddie, have had tremendous fun playing with The Reach Table Tennis Academy. The team spirit is fantastic and the support from Roger and Zoli first rate. It has been a great experience for them to be able to play competitive table tennis locally and a great learning opportunity on so many different levels – body, brain, social skills, perseverance. I can’t recommend the club highly enough.”

The Club is keen to find local business sponsors to help cover the costs of hiring practise facilities and equipment.
